The one cause you can prevent
A card for the fridge, or for whoever buys you flowers
If you have a cat
Keep true lilies out of the house.
Not out of reach. Out.
Which lilies
Easter, tiger, Asiatic, stargazer and the other Lilium lilies. Daylilies aren't true lilies botanically, and they're just as dangerous.
Which parts
All of them. Petals, leaves, stem, and the pollen groomed off a paw. A cat doesn't have to eat the plant to be poisoned by it.
A bouquet arrives
Check it on the doorstep before it comes inside. If there's a lily in it, the lily goes somewhere the cat has never been, or it goes in the bin.
She's been at one
Chewed, licked, or has pollen on her fur: that's the emergency clinic now, even if she looks perfectly well. Don't wait for signs, and take the plant or a photo of it with you.
It's the one cause of kidney disease in cats that you can prevent outright, which is why this card exists and why it's the only thing on it.
